Consulting Support Service

The Consulting Support Service (CSS), created in 1994, is VA's in-house resource to provide a wide array of technical architectural and engineering services to all VA facilities and projects. These services are provided by a group of highly-trained, experienced, and registered professional architects and engineers who are recognized as subject matter experts (SMEs) in their fields within the healthcare industry. Additionally, CSS has access to multiple other professionals including code officials, manufacturers, academic sources, professional associations, and VA Program Officials to assist in consultation tasks. CSS collaborates with these experts and auxilllary professionals to provide consultation on architecture, engineering (civil, structural, seismic, electrical power & lighting, data & telecommunication, low voltage medical systems, HVAC, controls, central utility plants, boiler/steam distribution systems, plumbing, medical gases, automatic transport/elevators, fire protection & life safety), building commissioning, sustainable design, and safety & occupational health to VA facilities across all 18 VISNs[1], including but not limited to:
